I was a little worried when I began reading this when I realized that it was alternating first person point of view. My nemesis. Never have I been capable of reading a book with it… until now.
What makes it work is how well developed the characters are. They have distinctly different thought processes, as well as separate histories, plots, and motivations. Kemmerer can step into the heads of her characters and still make them all feel unique. There’s even disability representation! The disability representation was well done, which can be a very iffy area (usually with how many books in which the disability is “fixed”).
Furthermore, the name of the book? I absolutely love it in context with how the story goes.
None of the traumas in their pasts nor what happens to them in the book seems out of place or forced into the story. The motivations of the characters are clear and believable.
I wish I could make this into a longer review, but the book just feels right. This is a great book with believable characters, unique world, and fantastically interwoven storylines.
